Giddha Classes
Expression, Confidence, and Cultural Continuity
Giddha holds a unique and powerful place within Punjabi folk culture. It is expressive without being casual, graceful without being weak, and joyful while carrying deep social meaning. At Royal Academy of Punjab, Giddha is taught with the respect and seriousness it deserves, preserving its authenticity while empowering students to express themselves with confidence.
The Giddha program focuses on rhythm, boli, facial expression, hand movements, and group awareness. Students learn how storytelling, emotion, and musical timing work together to create impactful performances. Equal importance is placed on cultural etiquette, lyrical understanding, and historical relevance, ensuring that dancers connect intellectually and emotionally with the form.
Classes are structured to support kids, youth, teens, and adults, allowing students to grow at their own pace while remaining challenged. Younger dancers build confidence, coordination, and self-expression, while older students refine technique, stage presence, and leadership skills. For many students, Giddha becomes a powerful tool for voice, identity, and empowerment.
The Academy’s Giddha instruction follows time-tested teaching methodologies. Movements are introduced gradually, repetition is encouraged, and progress is measured over time. This traditional approach is intentional—it reflects how folk knowledge has always been passed down, generation to generation, with care and responsibility.
Performance opportunities are integrated thoughtfully, not rushed. Students learn that representation of culture comes with responsibility. The goal is not just to perform, but to represent Punjabi heritage with dignity and accuracy.
